Selamat Memperingati Peringatan
Pemberontakan Pembela Tanah Air!
Selamat Memperingati Hari Pemberontakan Pembela Tanah Air
Commemorating the Anniversary of the Homeland Defenders Uprising
Happy Commemoration of the Anniversary of the Homeland Defenders Rebellion!
February 14 is not only celebrated as Valentine's Day. In Indonesia, this date is also celebrated as Homeland Defenders Rebellion Day or PETA. PETA, which was formed on October 3 1943, is considered one of the forerunners of the Indonesian National Army (TNI). The Homeland Defenders Voluntary Army or PETA (in Japanese, kyodo boei giyugun) is a military unit formed by Japan in Indonesia during the Japanese occupation. The Homeland Defense Army was formed on October 3, 1943.
The PETA Army played a major role in the Indonesian War of Independence. Several national figures who previously joined PETA include former President Soeharto and General Besar Soedirman. PETA army veterans have determined the development and evolution of the Indonesian military, including being an important part of the formation of the People's Security Agency (BKR), the People's Security Army (TKR), the People's Salvation Army, the Republic of Indonesia Army (TRI) and finally the TNI.
Because of this, PETA is widely considered to be one of the forerunners of the Indonesian National Army. The background to the PETA rebellion in Blitar itself was due to the discriminatory treatment of Japanese soldiers towards PETA members, as well as the anger of PETA members towards the Japanese military which had caused the Indonesian people to suffer a lot. On February 14 1945, at 03.00 WIB, PETA troops launched an attack by firing mortars at the residence of Japanese military officers, namely the Sakura Hotel in Blitar led by Sudanco Soeprijadi. Apart from this action, the Kempetai Headquarters was also shot at by machine guns and one of PETA's Bhudancho tore down a poster that read "Indonesia will be free" and replaced it with the words "Indonesia is free!".
By waving the red and white flag, the PETA soldiers attacked the Japanese troops' headquarters by slashing the Japanese troops. The PETA rebellion did not go according to plan when Japanese military reinforcements from Malang and Kediri came to quell the attack by PETA soldiers, the PETA rebellion was finally defeated, and succeeded in quelling the PETA rebellion and capturing the remaining troops. Sudanco Soeprijadi failed to mobilize other units to join in the rebellion.
Japan's call ordering PETA to withdraw made several other PETA units return to their respective units. However, those who returned were actually arrested by 78 PETA officers and soldiers, detained and thrown into prison to then be tried in Jakarta, tortured by Japanese police and even 6 people were sentenced to death in Ancol on May 16 1945, 6 people were imprisoned for life, and the rest are punished according to the degree of error. Sudanco Soeprijadi was reported to have died and his body has not been found to date.
Happy Commemoration of Homeland Defenders Rebellion Day
"The spirit of PETA soldiers in the story of February 14 is a reflection for Indonesian youth to rise up to fight colonialism against our homeland.
