Awal Mula Perayaan Natal
Berabad-abad sebelum kedatangan Yesus, orang Eropabersukacita selama titik balik musim dingin.
NamunPaus Julius I memilih 25 Desember sebagai pesta kelahiranYesus.
Natal dirayakandengan meriah.
Celebrating Christmas 2024
Merry Christmas 2024!
Christians around the world celebrate Christmas every December 25th. Christmas is a celebration of the
birth of Jesus Christ. In English, Christmas is called Chrismas which means Mass of Chirst or Christ
Mass. It is interpreted as a day to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Christmas celebrations have been around for
two millennia. The celebration is filled with religious and secular things.
Christians celebrate Christmas to commemorate the birth of Jesus. Usually, they exchange gifts, decorate
Christmas trees, attend mass at church, share food with family and friends, and wait for the arrival of
Santa Claus. In the United States, Christmas Day has been a federal holiday since 1870. The Beginning of
Christmas Centuries before the arrival of Jesus, Europeans rejoiced during the winter solstice. When
winter was over, they looked forward to longer days with more sunlight. Everyone partied until the wood
was burned, about 12 days. Cows and pigs were slaughtered so that they would not have to feed the
livestock during the winter. In Rome, which did not have a severe winter, they celebrated Saturnalia. It was
a celebration held in honor of the god Saturn, the god of agriculture. The celebration was held in the week
leading up to the winter solstice and continued for a whole month. It was a hedonistic time where food
and drink were abundant. For a month, slaves would become masters, and farmers ruled the city.
Businesses and schools would close so that everyone could join in the fun. In addition to Saturnalia, they
also celebrated Juvenilia, a festival honoring the children of Rome. Members of the upper class also often
celebrated the birthday of Mithras, the invincible sun god, on December 25. Mithra's birthday was
believed to be the most sacred day of the year. In the early Christian year, the birth of Jesus was never
celebrated. However, in the fourth century, the church fathers decided to institute the birth of Jesus as a
holiday. The date of Jesus' birth is not mentioned in the Bible. However, Pope Julius I chose December 25
as the feast of Jesus' birth.
So Christmas was held at the same time as the winter solstice festival. Church leaders confirmed that
Christmas would be celebrated every year on December 25.
Christians share love at Christmas. Christmas is celebrated with great joy. There are Christmas songs,
ornaments and Christmas trees in churches, shopping centers and offices. Christmas is also identical with
the figure of Santa Claus who is depicted as a chubby, friendly grandfather, with a white beard and glasses.
He wears a hat and a warm red suit with a white fur collar. He also carries a large bag filled with gifts for
good children. However, Christmas still focuses on gratitude to God. The most important meaning in
Christmas is more about the birth of Jesus. The birth of Jesus is believed to be a form of God's love for his
servants. Which God wants his servants to be saved from sins.
Merry Christmas,
“May the harmony of Christmas warm your home and fill your heart with boundless joy.
Selamat Memperingati Hari Natal, “Semogakeharmonisan Natal menghangatkan rumahmu danmemenuhi hatimu dengan sukacita yang tak terbatas.”
