Memperingati Hari Guru Nasional
Selamat Memperingati Hari Guru Nasional!
Commemorating National Teachers' Day
Happy National Teachers' Day!
National Teachers' Day in Indonesia falls on November 25 every year, coinciding with the establishment of the Indonesian Teachers Association (PGRI) in 1945. Reporting from the Directorate of Primary Education Teachers page, this organization was previously called the Dutch East Indies Teachers Association (PGHB) which was founded in 1912.
Its members consisted of school principals, village teachers, auxiliary teachers, and other school officials. In 1932, the PGHB changed its name to the Indonesian Teachers Association (PGI). However, during the Dutch colonial period, PGI was banned from activities because it was considered a threat to the colonizers.
After the proclamation of Indonesian independence, PGI held the first Indonesian Teachers Congress in Surakarta on November 24-25, 1945. The congress made several important decisions, including eliminating ethnic, racial, religious and political differences, and promoting the ideals of Indonesian independence through PGRI.
In 1994, President Soeharto established November 25 as National Teachers' Day based on Presidential Decree No. 8 of 1994. National Teachers' Day aims to honor and appreciate teachers in Indonesia for their dedication in educating and shaping the character of students.
This commemoration also coincides with PGRI's anniversary. However, National Teachers' Day is not accompanied by a national holiday.
Usually, schools in Indonesia hold ceremonies to celebrate this day, while the peak event is held by the central government in Jakarta.
Happy National Teachers' Day 2024, "Thank you for instilling knowledge and noble values in us, your services will never be forgotten."
